Which Social Media Platform Should I Focus On?

There are so many social media platforms out there, which means there are so many different ways you can market yourself as a creator or a business. We completely understand why it is so overwhelming. Here's what we tell our clients when it comes to choosing which platforms to exist on actively.

Claim your username.
If you're curious about the social media platform, make sure to claim the username. Regardless of whether you're ready to create content for the platform or not, it's always better to save your username for when you're ready to grow your social media presence.

Find your target audience.
Whether you're a creator or a business, you should know who you're actively targeting to view your content, purchase your product, or hire you for your services. Now, ask yourself, are these people on this platform? Is there another target audience I can reach via this platform? If the answer is Yes to both of these questions, this may be a platform you want to pursue.

What kind of content do you like to create?
Let's face it: nobody excels at everything. This means not everyone is going to excel at all the content. Maybe you love to write, so a platform like LinkedIn is more your jam. Maybe you love to design images, so platforms like Lemon8 or Pinterest will be your thing. Finding the type of content you enjoy creating will be a huge factor in deciding which platforms to exist on. If you don’t like to create it, chances are you will find any little excuse to stay inconsistent.

Do you have the bandwidth?
Maybe you've come to the conclusion that you like to write and create videos/graphics and that your audience is on LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, and Lemon8. Great! But how are you feeling? Overwhelmed? We thought so. Ranking the social media platforms based on your favorites will give you insight into what you want to manage vs. outsourcing. Hiring an agency (like us) to edit, film, create, or simply manage your social media account can give you peace of mind. Don't have the funds to outsource? Repurposing is going to be the way to go. Many will tell you that you need to create content for each platform in order to connect with that specific audience. Unfortunately, we must decide the easier way out as one-man-band creators or entrepreneurs. Repurposing and scheduling content ahead of time will be your best bet.

Lucky Number 3.
At LatinxMKTG we choose three platforms. One platform for the heart of your community. One platform to bring in brand awareness. One platform for trial and error; you're having fun, and that's what matters. We choose to emphasize the heart of our community on Instagram. For awareness, we are choosing Pinterest. For fun-sies, we are choosing LinkedIn. As we repurpose, we will incorporate TikTok, but no original content will be created yet. With three platforms, you can balance your time on social media while targeting the different aspects of the marketing funnel.

At the end of the day, you get to decide which social media platforms to be on. Don't feel obligated to follow the shifts as social media platforms pop up left and right. By showing up consistently and doing your best, your business or brand will continue to flourish. Todo tiene su tiempo. You've got this!
